William Lewis (Sonny) Dumas' Obituary
William Lewis (Sonny) Dumas moved from his earthly home to his Heavenly Home July 7, 2017. Lewis was born in Hazen, AL on July 2, 1937 to David Lewis Dumas and Mary Lou Cosby Dumas. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Karen Dutsch Dumas: his beloved daughter, Mary Dumas; grandsons Slade Schwenke and Steven Mansfield and granddaughter Kaiden Schwenke; sons Randy and David Dumas and daughters Diane Williams and Danese Stokes. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Woody Stough and brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Angie Dumas; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Simmie and Kathleen Stivender and Jim and Judy James. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who love him dearly.
Lewis is preceeded in death by his father and mother and twin brothers Ronald and Donald Dumas.
After graduating from Orville High School in Orville, AL, he served 4 years in the Navy aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Saratoga. He moved to Houston in 1961 and went to work at Cameron Iron/Cooper Industries/ Wyman Gordon for 38 years.
When he retired, he and his wife Karen purchased a 5th wheel RV and traveled all over this beautiful USA and Canada. They were members of the Carriage Travel Club and then the Lone Star Ramblers where they made many wonderful friends and great travel memories.
Lewis was a member of Lazybrook Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Oak Forest Masonic Lodge #1398 F&AM and Selma Lodge #926 F&AM for over 50 years. He was a lifetime member of the HLSR and a lifetime member of the Horspitality Committee.
There were three times of the year that made him extremely happy. The Dutsch Family Reunion at Lake Livingston State Park with his wife's family, the annual trip to Gulf Shores State Park with his grandkids and his sister's family, and the Dutsch Family Christmas gathering.
He will be remembered for his kind heart, his eagerness to help people fix things, his listening ear, his calmness in stressful times, and his devotion to his family.
