William "Bill" Jefferson Raines' Obituary
Bill Raines, age 82 of Houston, Tx went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 2, 2017. He was born on December 27, 1934 in Canton, Mississippi to the late James Edward (nee Alfred James Ambridge) Raines and Jessie (Farrell) Raines. He served in the Military in the Marines from 1953-1956, he was stationed Korea during the Korean war and in San Diego, California. Owned Raines Auto Repair from 1973 to 1996. His many hobbies and loves were hunting, fishing, and gardening. Just like his love for tomatoes his love for Mary was one that was extremely strong. His love to smoke meats on the pit that was given to him by the late Sam Benlaco. The aroma would fill the neighborhood just like his personality would fill the room. As a member of Lazybrook Baptist Church, he served faithfully as a deacon and volunteer who assisted in the repair, maintenance & decision-making for matters related to the building and grounds. He served as a volunteer member of the Volunteer Christian Builders from 2001 to present. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Ted Raines, sister Jean Fleniken, Brother in law Warren Bozeman
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 61 years, Mary Raines, known as Dad to Dennis Raines, Dane Raines (Donna Raines) Darrell Raines (Beverly ) all of Houston, TX; Anita Parker (Greg) of Malvern, AR ; known as Pawpaw to Crystal Holm (Josh) of Mineral Wells, TX; Jeff Parker of Benton, AR; Justin Raines of Missouri City, TX.; Alesha Kosey (Jeff), T. J. Raines (Kristi Wilson), Sunny Ward all of Houston, TX., seven great grandchildren: Rebecca Holm, Ethan Holm, Logan Kosey, Jealyn Kosey, Breann Kosey, Kiera Raines , Autumn Ward, known as Billy to sisters Yvonne Bozeman of Baton Rouge, LA, Shirley Wise (John) of Ovilla, TX, known as Uncle Billy to numerous nieces and nephews, and Bill to so many friends and loved ones. Pall bearers: Jeff Kosey, Jeff Parker, Justin Raines, T.J. Raines, Josh Holm, Donny Jansen. A Celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 10 am at Lazybrook Baptist Church in Houston with Rev. John Neesley officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to service time. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of flowers; memorials can be made to Lazybrook Baptist Church building fund or M. D Anderson Research Center.
