Thomas laurence stanley III's Obituary
THOMAS LAURENCE “LARRY” STANLEY III, 77, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle, friend and faithful servant of God, passed away June 13, 2022 after a period of acute and prolonged illness. He was born on January 18, 1945 in Newark, New Jersey, and spent his childhood years in Essex Fells, New Jersey and Orinda,California before his family settled in Dickinson, Texas, graduating in 1962 from Dickinson High School, where he played tennis and was in the choir and astronomy club. Larry served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era as an air traffic operations officer, which he continued in his civilian life working for Houston’s Hobby Air Traffic Control System. His career paths would have many different roles to include becoming a successful professional Private Pilot as well as a Commercial Flight Instructor for Boeing Simulators. Larry being a lifelong science and aeronautics buff, would lead to his business venture founding The American Rocket Belt Corporation. He took great pride in creating the engineering designs for the RB-2000 rocket-belt. In his later years, Larry took a serious interest in promoting the development of thorium-based nuclear power in Texas. Larry was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, reading the Bible with great care, and after graduating from Liberty University with his Bachelor’s degree at the age of 74, was pursuing a Master’s degree in Biblical Studies with intentions to minister the gospel to salvation-seeking souls. He received most pleasure in spending time with his family, and enjoying computer-science, chess, politics, a good filet of fish, and viewing a beautiful sky's horizon were among his favorite pastimes throughout his life's journey.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Laurence Stanley, Jr. He is survived by his wife and dearest love of nearly 37 years, Terri Mackey Stanley, of Missouri City, Texas, his daughter Jessica Lois Carhart (Ken) of Sisters, Oregon, his son Kyle Thomas Stanley and daughter “Katy” Katherine Beverly Stanley, both of Sugar Land, Texas, sisters Lois LaRose (Guy) of Richmond, Texas and Jane Stanley of Kenner, Louisiana, brothers David Stanley (Hazel) of Jacksonville, Florida and L. Jerome Stanley of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, his beloved mother Beverly Hoffman Stanley of Kenner, Louisiana, his aunt Lois Lazaro of Georgia, five grandchildren, and a whole host of nieces, nephews and cousins along with many friends across his walk of life. He lived by the ethos, “You can do anything you want to do, but it’s up to you and it comes down to your ability of persistence and determination”, and took it to heart throughout his entire life. Larry will be greatly missed, and our memories with him will always be cherished. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 17,2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Cemetery Houston, Texas 77079
