Suzanne Hammond Seger's Obituary
Suzanne Hammond Seger, 90, of Houston, Texas, passed away on April 16, 2024. She was born on July 1, 1933, in Ottawa, Kansas, to the late Kenneth George Hammond and Fern Elinor Shirk Hammond. Suzanne married William Ardsley Stevens Sr. at First Christian Church Ottawa on November 13, 1960, and they moved to Galveston, Texas shortly after. They were devoted parents to William Ardsley Stevens Jr. and Susan Katherine Chambers.
Suzanne was a proud alumna of Ottawa High School and Menninger Nursing College where she became a Registered Nurse. She worked as nurse and cared for her patients for over 40 years. Suzanne was a cherished grandmother to three grandchildren. She married Ross Seger on December 15,1994. Ross and Suzanne enjoyed traveling and taking cruises. She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening and decorating for holidays. She loved singing and began singing in a church choir at the age of 10. She continued singing in church choirs as an adult and sang with the Houston Symphony Chorale and The Bay Area Chorus. She found solace and community at St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Choir and worshipped faithfully.
Suzanne Hammond Seger is survived by her son William A. Stevens Jr., daughter Susan Katherine Chambers, son in law Benjamin Chambers III and grandchildren Madeline Grace Chambers, Benjamin Cooper Chambers and Emma Caroline Chambers. She was preceded in death by her husband’s William A. Stevens Sr. and Ross Seger, father Kenneth George Hammond, Mother Fern Elinor Shirk Hammond, sister Janice Hammond Overtire. Suzanne will be remembered for her love of music, kindness, grace, and unwavering love for her family.
A service to honor Suzanne's life will be held on April 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Stephens Presbyterian Church, located at 2127 Theta St. Houston, TX 77034. The gravesite ceremony will follow at South Park Cemetery. Rasberry Funeral Home in Houston, Texas, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
