As a small girl growing up in Baltimore, Ruth had a dream that one day she would become a missionary. To this end, she studied and committed her life to doing just that. Early on in her life she had desired to go to China and become a missionary. She studied the Mandarin dialect and was well prepared when the Bamboo Curtain fell and no missionaries were allowed to enter China. Ruth had graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Degree in Nursing and put her skills to good use in Haiti where she worked and taught English and a dialect of French in a local orphanage. She returned to the United States and settled in San Antonio, Texas teaching English at IPI, a Church of God Bible School. This is where she would meet the love of her life. Ruth was Juan's English teacher. After Juan graduated, they realized that God had brought them together. They were married, in 1953, by a Justice of the Peace in San Antonio. Because this was his first marriage to officiate, he did not charge them for the wedding.
After the young couple was married, they were off to Peru where they were missionaries for several years. Ruth and Juan were among the founding missionaries in the Church of God. They continued in this mission field while they were establishing their family. Two of their sons were born in Peru and two were born in the United States. They came back from Peru and settled for a time in Maryland before venturing into Guatemala and then returning to Houston, Texas. They soon realized the need in the Houston area for Missionaries and have continued their work here until Ruth's death.
A true and faithful servant of the Lord, Ruth will be remembered for teaching. loving and ministering to the lives of thousands of people around the world.
