Randel was 31 yrs old. He was born in Austin, Texas in 1993 to
Alan & Teresita Laake. He was both of Caucasian & Filipino descent.
He was an adventurous guy. He also was very intrigued about everything.
He needed to know how everything worked. He attended his elementary school
years in Hutto, Texas. As a big brother to his identical looking younger sister,
his favorite pastime was to antagonize her. He had that smile and smirk that
could get him out of almost anything. As much as he picked at her, they were
inseparable. His love for his sister was beyond words. Where you found one,
you found the other.
Although he was very shy, he enjoyed and played Little League baseball
and Pee Wee Football. He attended and graduated from Lehman High School,
where he enjoyed and participated in Theatre arts as a stage manager. As
Randel was not a center of the spotlight kind of person, but let’s keep things in
order kind of person, he excelled in his role. His teachers and peers would
praise him on a job well done. He also participated in the NROTC Program
which was an early Navy program for high schoolers.
Also, in these years he befriended some of the most influential people in
his life. He met Tom (a.k.a. Duc (Duke)) & Jacob (a.k.a. Box ); they all became so close
and inseparable, we would forget which one of these boys were not related.
Randel also met his high school sweetheart Lissa in these years. She was his life/long
friend and forever confidant. She always held a special place in his heart as they
communicated often, up until the day he went home.
As Randel relocated to Lubbock, he had to leave his dearly loved cats (Vivor,
Little Socks & Tsume) behind with Lissa in hopes to one day be reunited with them.
Up until he left us, he was still video chatting and checking on them daily. His last
purchase were of several items he was having delivered to Lissa, for his cats. His cats
were a big part of his heart, as his keychains reflected replicas of his cats so he would
keep them close.
Through-out his life he worked as a delivery driver, warehouse worker, news
paper delivery driver, & Home Depot associate. Randel’s favorite job was at Electracom
as a Technical Associate. Which was where he worked at in Lubbock, Texas when he
relocated about 8 months ago. He loved this job so much that he would post
photos on Facebook often with captions and praise for his place of employment.
He respected his boss and was very grateful for having a “Cool Boss” as he
posted on Facebook. Roger (the boss) took to Randel like fish take to water.
The Boss truly had a soft spot for him and made Randel part of his everyday mindset
and heart. Roger had a huge and influential part in the latest part of his life.
Randel left us too soon and left a void in the hearts of all who loved him.
His witty nature and clever remarks will be missed dearly. Some of his aspirations
were becoming more like the people he admired. Randel looked up to his
older brother Rodel. Commenting on his wish to be more like him, in his strength
and mannerisms. When Rodel’s son was born some months ago, Randel had the
opportunity to meet his newest nephew. He was very nervous about dropping
him, but most of all he was so joyful and happy when he put him in his arms.
The picture that was taken of this moment says it all.
One of his most admired & inspirational people for Randel, was his father.
Alan remembered him saying “I want to be like you. I want to act like you and
take care of what I need to care of, like you.” This was only in the last year that he
relayed this to his father.
Randel suffered from some debilitating health issues over the last several
years. His journey through such trying and difficult times is over now. His body is
whole and now rejoicing with our Father in Heaven. As we will see him again,
he will be dearly and utterly missed until we meet again.
