Pamela Sue Arnold Powers' Obituary
Pamela Sue Arnold Powers, age 78, passed away on January 10, 2025, in Houston, TX. Born on
April 14, 1946 in Camden, Arkansas, Pam was a respected member of her community and will be remembered for her warm and vibrant personality, a stranger to no one, and a great friend and mom to all.
Pam graduated from Camden High School in 1964, where she was a majorette and played the flute. She also loved playing the piano. Following high school, Pam attended the University of Arkansas, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. While attending Arkansas, she was named “Who’s Who” in the College of Business Administration. She served as Secretary of the senior class of the business school and was a Junior and Senior class representative to the Commerce Guild, as well as a member of the sorority, Pi Beta Phi.
Following college, Pam moved to Washington D.C. where accepted a position on Capital Hill with Senator John McClellan in the U.S. Senate Committee on Patents, Trademarks, and Copywrites, before transitioning to the Senator’s main legislative office where she worked until 1976.
It was in Washington D.C. where she met her future husband, James “Jim” Powers. They were married on July 22, 1972 at the Presbyterian Church, with a reception following at the Army and Navy Club in Washington D.C. In 1976, they moved to Houston where Jim accepted a position with the Houston U.S. Attorney’s Office. Pam accepted a position with U.S. Congressman Bill Archer in his Houston District office. In 1978, Pam and Jim welcomed their first and only child, daughter Elizabeth “Lisa” Dawn. Pam would later go on to work for U.S. Congressman John Culberson representing the district formally held by The Honorable Bill Archer.
Pam will forever be remembered for her spunk for life. She was always involved in activities in her community, whether it was volunteering at Memorial Assistance Ministries, being an active member of the Texas Federation of Republican Women or attending St. Thomas Baptist Church.
She and Jim were avid travelers taking in destinations from Europe to Mexico, Canada, and New Zealand to name a few. Pam was a dear friend to many and was always ready to socialize and swap stories and share laughter with friends and family.
Pam is survived by daughter Lisa Miller, son-in-law Todd Miller, grandchildren Mary and Pate Miller, and sister Clara Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Powers, her father John Tyler Arnold Jr., Mother, Mary Sue Williams Arnold, sister Sarah Ann Arnold Mason, and her brother, John Tyler Arnold III.
She was a loyal and loving spouse to Jim and mom to Lisa always putting her faith and family first. She will be remembered for her warmth, laughter, and loving personality.
A service to celebrate Pam’s life will be held Monday, February 10, at 3:00pm at Rasberry Family Funeral Home.
