Norma Mary Pogson's Obituary
Norma Mary Iversen Pogson passed away peacefully on May 13, 2017 in Cypress, Texas. She was born to Norman and Marion Iversen in Chicago, Illinois on October 8, 1929. Norma grew up in Park Ridge, Illinois where she attended elementary and high school. She received a B.A. in English from the College of St. Theresa in Winona, Minnesota. After college, Norma became an elementary school teacher and principal in Chicago and later taught abroad in Venezuela where she met her husband, Gilbert Irwin Pogson. The couple married in 1956 and had four children. The family moved to Houston in 1963. Norma attended the University of Houston and resumed teaching at Westwood Elementary and then St. Francis De Sales until her retirement. Affectionately called “Normie”, she particularly enjoyed the company of her friends and family. She was a fierce competitor when playing bridge, Yahtzee, Scrabble and an assortment of other games. Normie loved sports too; especially watching her baseball games and also had an affection for many of her favorite tv shows and movies.
Norma is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Philip Iversen. She is survived by her daughters Deborah Pogson and Angelica Pogson; son, Kenneth Pogson and his wife, Susan; son, Michael D. Pogson and his wife, Sylvia; grandchildren Michael A. Pogson, Isabel Pogson, Lindsey Pogson and Kyle Pogson; and many other extended family. Norma’s family and friends will gather on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon for a memorial service at Real Life Church (23845 Tomball Pkwy, Tomball, TX 77375); a reception will follow.
