Norma Melveda McClendon's Obituary
Norma Melveda McClendon 92 went to be with our Lord on June 14th, 2020. Ms. McClendon was born in Bokhoma, Oklahoma to Silas and Lucie Roberson January 28, 1928. She is preceded in death by the father of her children, James Pike and husband Gerald McClendon. She is survived by her son Travis and wife Carlotta Pike of Beach City, Texas, daughter Darlene and husband Scooter Bice of Dayton, Texas, stepson Craig and wife Joyce McClendon of Austin, Texas, stepdaughter Jan and husband Steve Finks of Missouri, stepdaughter Mary Ellen Mayes and husband Mike of Colorado. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one brother. Ms. McClendon graduated from Robert E. Lee high school of Baytown, Texas in 1947 and retired from Foleys Department Stores after many years of service.
Ms. McClendon enjoyed working in her yard, baking, and sewing. She was quite cherished for her coconut cream pies, and oatmeal raisin pecan cookies. She was a member of Grace Community Baptist Church for over 21 years. She was loved and respected for the role she played in assisting her pastor. She would keep check on all of the people in church and let the pastor know when someone was sick or needed a visit. She and Bro. Wayne had a very close relationship as they would talk every day. She loved him and he loved her. She knew what a challenge he faced and did her part in helping him.
