Nadia Branisa

Nadia Branisa, age 94, died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on July 15, 2024. Nadia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Nadia was born in 1930 in Czechoslovakia (now known as Czechia). As a teenager, she escaped alone from her birth country due to the unrest caused by the political effects of WWII and communism. She graduated from the University of Strasbourg in France where she met her future husband, Frank. In 1956, Nadia and Frank immigrated to the United States where Frank was employed for 30 years as a Consultant Geophysicist at Exxon and they raised their three adored children. In 1962, Nadia became a proud American citizen. She cherished this country’s freedoms and its republican form of government. July 4th at the Village Parade was always a time for her to honor this country while celebrating with friends and family. The chance to achieve success in this country, make one’s own path and “reap what you sow” were part of her mantra. Upon her children leaving for college, Nadia started a career as a real estate agent and took great pride in investing her earnings. Family vacations included camping in many of the national parks of her adopted country and, after Frank retired, extensive international travel. Nadia and the entire family were avid and competitive tennis players; she was also extremely accomplished as a Life Master in bridge. Nadia was known as an amazing cook of Czech family dishes and American cuisine. Long-time friends and family routinely visited her home where you could always enjoy her hospitality. Nadia was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, and grandson, Ryan. She is survived by her children, Susie Subrt and husband Paul, Eva Batson and husband Skip, and Michael and wife Susan; beloved brother, Lubor Chvalovsky and wife Jana; five grandchildren, Adrian Subrt and wife Ann, Camille Davis and husband Kevin, Blake Sivon, Spencer Sivon, and John Branisa and fiancee Georgia; great grandson, Elliot Davis; and by devoted caregivers, Maria Espinal and Sandra Chain. She is now at rest and was welcomed into Heaven by the open arms of Frank and Ryan. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Drive. Following the service, a reception to honor her memory will be held at the Houston Racquet Club, 10709 Memorial Drive. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Nadia’s memory may be made to the Michael Ryan Branisa Fellowship at the Bush School of Government and Public Service.
