Mary Anna "Granny" Walters' Obituary
Mary Anna “Granny” Walters, 82, of Dayton passed away on June 7, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 4, 1935 in Munday, Texas to parents, Thomas Baker and Bessie Gray Baker. After moving to Harlingen, Texas she met her future husband Milton Walters at the church they were both attending. They were married on May 4, 1957 and lived happily raising their family in Jacinto City. Mary was active in her children’s lives serving as President of the PTA for many years. Raising their family in Jacinto City, Texas, Mary and Milton owned and operated an Auto Parts and Garage and were both active in their business. When they retired from the garage and auto parts store, they moved to Crosby and enjoyed a little bit of country living. It was while living in Crosby that Milton passed away in 1988. After Milton’s death, Mary moved to Dayton and enjoyed helping to raise her youngest grandchild, Jennifer. She was a wonderful cook and baker. She loved making pies and cakes for friends and always for any church dinner. Once her pie or cake was brought to the church it disappeared quickly as everybody loved Granny’s cooking. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother always happy when the kids would come and visit. If you were ever fortunate enough to have been given a cake or a pie by Granny, you could actually taste the love that she had put into it. She was a longtime member of Grace Community Baptist Church in Dayton and will be greatly missed. Granny had a heart of gold and loved any and every one she met and they fell in love with her. Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Milton Walters; parents, Tom and Bessie Baker; brothers, Roy and Thomas Baker; and sister, Geraldine Hermansen.
She is survived by her children, Robbin Townsend and husband Art, Becky Witt and husband Spanky, Jess Walters and wife Tammy and Geno Walters and wife Krystal; grandchildren, Josh Townsend, Jacob Townsend and wife Gina, Joseph Townsend and wife Sarah, Justin and Aaron Walters, Jessica Kelley and husband Josh, Jennifer Lumpkin, Steven Witt and Jessica Beard; great-grandchildren, Jake Townsend, Jr., Seth Townsend, Claire Townsend, Kate Townsend, Emma Townsend, Allie Jo Townsend, Levi Walters, Grayson Kelley, Layna Kelley, Landri Kelley, Gauge Witt and one great-grandbaby on the way as well as a host of nieces, nephews and all of her friends and family in Christ. Mary is also survived by her sisters, Nancy Reddout and husband Don and Maxine Shelton. A Celebration of Life service for Mary “Granny” Walters will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11 o’clock in the morning at Grace Community Baptist Church in Dayton with Rev. Wayne Hardin officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 9 am until service time at 11am at the church.
