Lonie Roberta Casey's Obituary
Lonie Roberta Casey, 74, of Buna, Texas, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on May 17, 2025 in Baytown, Tx. Born on December 30, 1950, in Kirbyville, Texas, to Alan Leon and Margie Cunningham, Lonie lived a life marked by love, faith, and service.
She married the love of her life, James “Jimbo” Casey, on May 22, 1981. Together they built a home centered around Christ, family, and a heart for others. Lonie dedicated most of her life to caring for children, nurturing her family, and serving the Lord with joyful devotion. She volunteered in nearly every capacity at The River Church, where she was a constant source of encouragement, a warm smile to newcomers, making sure that her Pastor, Rob Morris, was taken care of, and a faithful servant to those in need.
Her ministry extended beyond the church walls—especially to bereaved families whom she comforted with deep compassion and understanding. Even in times when she didn’t feel her best, Lonie continued to pour herself out for others. Her home and heart were always open.
After retiring in 2012, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and many friends. She never met a stranger and loved sharing Jesus with everyone she encountered.
Lonie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Leon and Margie Cunningham, and her husband, James “Jimbo” Casey. Left to honor her memory are her children: James Christopher Casey and wife Kimberly of Crosby, TX; Margie Gammons and husband Michael of Channelview, TX; and Suzie Casey and husband Toby of Weatherford, TX. She is also survived by her brothers: William Gilley and wife Susan of Lumberton, TX; Alan Cunningham and wife Rachel of Buna, TX; and David Cunningham and partner Jennifer of Buna, TX.
Her legacy lives on in her grandchildren: Rebekkah, Masen, Donovan, Hayden, Avery, Aurora, Alexander, and Hannah; her three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Visitation for Lonie will be held at The River (970 Dell Dale, Channelview, Tx, 77530) on Friday, May 23, 2025 at 6pm, with the service to follow at 7pm. Internment will be Saturday May 24, 2025 at 11am at Antioch Cemetery in Buna, Tx.
Lonie loved with everything she had. Her life was a living testimony of grace, hospitality, and faith—and all who knew her were blessed by her presence.
