Laura Jo Smith's Obituary
Laura Jo Rogers Smith, also known as “Grams,” passed away on February 28th, 2025 in her home in Magnolia, Texas at the age of 85 years old. She was born on November 6th, 1939 in Pontiac, Michigan to Eugene & Madelene Rogers. However, she spent most of her childhood and young adulthood in southern California.
She married Richard Smith on March 3rd, 1960. They had 5 children together, and she was a stay-at-home mother. They moved their family to Houston, Texas in 1978, and the Houston area has been home ever since.
Laura was a firecracker with a fun-loving and friendly personality. She was often fascinated by TV shows like NCIS, ER, and late night talk shows. She also enjoyed reading and listening to audio books. One of her absolute favorite hobbies was shopping, and she loved giving gifts. She loved to sing and listen to music. She knew the name every singer on the radio.
She loved her friends and family, intensely. She wanted to be the biggest cheerleader, especially for the underdogs, and she was quick to help anyone that she could. She loved to dance and entertain.
As a Latter-Day Saint, she loved Jesus and always wanted to do right by him. In spite of her various health challenges over the years, she would still bring fun and laughter to the people around her (intentional or not), and even until the day she passed, she never fully lost her spunk and sassy sense of humor.
She is preceded in death by her parents (Eugene “Smokey” and Madelene Rogers), 4 siblings (Carl, Harold, RuthAnn, and Rex), and 1 granddaughter (Stefani).
She is survived by her husband (Richard), 1 sibling (Roy), 5 children (Tracy and husband Darron, Tye and wife Trish, Trudy, Toby and wife Lisa, and Ted), 9 grandchildren (with 6 spouses), and 21 great-grandchildren.
