Lamar L. Walker's Obituary
Lamar L. "Sarge" Walker, 85 of Dayton, passed away on February 18, 2018 with his loving wife Marie at his side. L. L. as he was known by many, was born in Gladewater, Texas to parents, R.E. Walker and Alma Walker.
L.L. found the love of his life some 61 years ago when he met and fell in love with Mary Marie Pouncey. After a very brief courtship they were married and had two beautiful girls, Joyce and Evelyn. His wife and family meant the world to him. From the very beginning, L.L. treated Marie like a princess. He did not want to leave them so soon but his Lord and Savior called him home.
L.L. "Sarge" Walker had dedicated his life to Law Enforcement. He and Marie dedicated many years to the Dayton Explorer Scouts Post # 361, where Sarge taught the boys and Marie, the girls. Many folks here in Dayton were fortunate enough to remember those years. L.L. Walker proudly served his country during the Korean War in The United States Marines. He was so proud to be a Marine and had many, many stories to tell about his service. He was a member of the Dayton American Legion Post and a member of Grace Community Baptist Church in Dayton.
He is preceded in death by his parents, R. E. and Alma Walker, son-in-law Charles Parker, and grand-son-in-law Dennis Griffin. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Marie Pouncey Walker; daughters, Joyce Gore, Evelyn Wagner and husband Jacob, Sr. He is survived by grandchildren, Allison Fairchild and husband Jason, Scharlene Ayers and husband Josh, Jamie Hurt and husband David, Christopher Gore and wife Nikki, Darick Gore, Jacqueline Wagner, Dana Wagner, Jacob Wagner, Jr, and Jock Wagner and wife Ashley. L.L. is also survived by 25 great grandchildren and has one on the way. He leaves behind a community that loved and respected him and will remember him fondly.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 5 o'clock in the afternoon until 8 o'clock in the evening at Grace Community Baptist in Dayton.
A Celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 11 o'clock in the morning at Grace Community Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Hardin officiating.
L. L. will be laid to rest following services at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton. The Dayton Police Department and the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department will serve as pallbearers and his grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. The Liberty County Sheriffs Office will honor Sergeant Walker with an Honor Guard the day of the funeral service and will provide military honors at the cemetery.
