Katherine Ann Byrd's Obituary
Katherine Ann Byrd, “Kathy” was born on July 23, 1946, in San Antonio Texas. She is survived
by her beloved husband Robert L. Byrd, her daughter and son-in-law Trisha and Steven
Tomlinson, her grandsons Christopher Tomlinson and Kyle Tomlinson, her sister Gloria Jean
Rhodes, sister Lana Erhard, sister Debbie Todaro and brother Melvin Oestreich, along with
many nephews, nieces and great nephews and great nieces.
She is preceded in death by her parents Oswald and Linda Oestreich, brother Calvin Oestreich,
sister Nadine Solace and sister Brenda Johnson.
Kathy graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in 1964. She married her loving husband
Robert on July 10, 1964. Kathy started working for the City of Houston for the animal control
center where she met one of her best friends Gayle Lolley. They became such good friends
that they considered each other as sisters. She went on to several different jobs throughout the
years, but she was most committed to being the pastor’s secretary at Memorial Baptist Church
for over 15 years. Kathy and her sisters were very close and spent most of their time together
doing crafts, shopping, and going to craft and holiday markets. Kathy became a mother in
August of 1966 and was a very loving, devoted and selfless mother. She was also a very
devoted wife, sister and friend.
Kathy enjoyed cross stitching, doing crafts and spending lots of time with her family. Most of all,
she loved being a Nana. She loved spending time with her grandsons and spoiling them. They
were the reason she got up in the mornings. She was a blessing to them as much as they were
a blessing to her.
Kathy’s favorite time of the year was the holidays. She always spent her time with her family
celebrating Jesus and all the blessings He had given her. Jesus was her source of refuge and
strength and she is now in his loving arms. One of her favorite bible verses was Isaiah 41:10 “
Fear not for I am with you. Do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and
help you. I will hold you in my righteous right hand.”
Kathy will be deeply missed by all. She will not be forgotten and we will see her again someday
in Heaven.
