John McNicol's Obituary
John McNicol, age 87, died peacefully at home Monday morning, July 22, 2024 surrounded by loved ones in Cut and Shoot, TX. He was born in Shreveport, LA to Frank and Laura McNicol on January 7, 1937. John was preceded by his brothers, Donald and Roland of Houston, TX. He is survived by his sister Patty Gleason of Houston, TX.
John is also survived by his wife of 66 years, Marilyn, their daughter Laura Lawman and her husband Thomas, grandson Tim Lawman and his wife Kacie, his great granddaughters Charley and Palmer Lawman and daughter Amanda Lawman all of Germantown, TN, John and Marilyn’s son, Dan McNicol and his wife Connie of Montgomery, TX, grandson Josh McNicol and his wife Carrie, his great granddaughters Audrey and Ava McNicol of College Station, TX and his granddaughter Kim McNicol of Montgomery, TX.
John served in the US Air Force for 22 years, retiring as a Master Sargent serving as an Air Traffic Control supervisor. During his military career, he received two Bronze Star Medals serving in the Vietnam War and awarded an Honorable discharge in February of 1978. After retiring from the military, he then continued his college education and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree from the University of West Florida in Industrial Arts. John taught in the Conroe Independent school district for 22 years. He cherished his time working with young minds and making a difference in his students lives.
John is at peace now with unlimited naps in his recliner, always getting the first tee time on the golf course in the morning, trolling in his boat on Lake Conroe catching all the fish he wants, still lunching every weekday at Chick-fil-a and enjoying an Amex black card with no limit.
A private service will be held for the family graveside at Houston Memorial Cemetery on Tuesday, July 30th at 10:30AM with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to donate to the charity of your choice.
