Janice Elaine Wilson's Obituary
Janice Elaine Carter Wilson went to her heavenly home on December 19, 2024. She was 67 years of age. Janice was born in Houston, Texas on December 15, 1957 to Paul and Betty Carter. She was a lifelong resident of the Houston area, primarily the North Shore community, in east Harris County, Texas. Janice graduated from North Shore High School in 1976 and was a member of choir and the Scarlets drill team. Janice married her North Shore High School sweetheart, Dudley Wilson. She was a dedicated mother to their five sons: Jason, Randall, Bradley, Austin and Tyler; and seven grandchildren.
A loving wife, devoted mother and beloved Nana, Janice was happiest surrounded by her family. They were her world. She was the heart of her home and family. She spent countless hours, over many years, sitting in the stands watching her boys play baseball for North Shore Little League. Janice never missed a game. Whatever sport her boys wanted to play, she was up for it and served as their biggest cheerleader and advocate.
She loved spending time with her precious grandchildren baking cookies, shopping, taking family vacations – making beautiful memories. Janice enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren with special gifts for each occasion and hosting family pool parties. Her proudest moments were having her family all together.
Janice quickly realized after a brief employment stint in the corporate world that it was not for her. A lover of children and caregiving, she opened her home daycare that grew into two thriving daycare centers over a span of 40 years. Janice lovingly cared for two generations of children over her lifetime. She held all children in her daycare centers to high standards, always encouraging them to their fullest potential. Janice was Nana to many, a staple in her community and loved all the children and their families as if they were her own. She attended countless sports games, school performances and supported various fundraisers for children in her daycares – you name it – she was there to lend her support.
Janice served as an active member of The River Church and friend to Pastor Rob Morris for over thirty years. From childhood through early adulthood, she was a member of Uvalde Baptist Church. Janice was truly a servant of the Lord. Whenever she learned of a family in need, she lovingly and eagerly stepped forward to help them, always requesting that her financial gifts be kept anonymous. Each year, she sponsored Christmas for several families, ensuring everyone had ample gifts and everything they needed to have a wonderful Christmas. It was her favorite time of year. It was Janice’s mission in life to be a blessing to others – to be the hands and feet of Christ. She admirably fulfilled that mission.
After her family, Janice’s next loves were her animals. When she and Dudley moved to Highlands, Texas on four acres (and no HOA), this provided her the perfect opportunity to have the menagerie of animals about which she had always dreamed. The animals (many rescued) consisted of horses, several miniature horses, a donkey, chickens, fish, tortoises, and many dogs and cats. Her favorite time of day was pulling through the home’s front iron gate (after driving home from work) and being greeted by her miniature horses, who anxiously awaited a treat from their loving mom.
Janice enjoyed a wonderful childhood growing up in North Shore. Her parents took her and her two siblings, Lisa and Paul, on annual two to three week road trips across the country every summer, which made for great adventures and a lifetime of memories. Times were simpler in the 60’s and 70’s. She always said it was the best time to be a kid.
Those who knew Janice well knew she loved warm climates, palm trees, sandy beaches and her most beloved happy place in the world – Cozumel, Mexico. She and her family vacationed there for many years, creating wonderful memories and making friends. In fact, her generous heart extended to Cozumel as well. Janice regularly brought shoes, gifts and candy for children in the orphanage, as well as hundreds of pounds of food and treats for the dogs in the animal shelter. Janice enjoyed personally feeding a treat to each dog in the shelter. By the time she finished, the dogs were barking like crazy and she was smiling ear to ear. Janice loved bringing joy to people and animals, alike.
Janice is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Dudley Wilson; sons: Jason Wilson (wife: Amanda); Randall Wilson (wife: Louise); Bradley Wilson (wife: Edna); Austin Wilson (wife: Ely); and Tyler Wilson (wife: Melissa); and grandchildren: Giselle Resendez, Pierce Wilson, Kinley Wilson, Carra Wilson, Sofia Wilson, Camilla Wilson and Gianna Wilson; sister: Lisa Gibbens (husband: Patrick); brother: Paul Carter, Jr. (wife: Kelly); nieces: Courtney Gibbens Just (husband: Joshua); and Kandice Carter Morales (husband: Matt); nephews: Adam Gibbens and Paul Carter, III; and grandnephew: Broden Morales.
Janice loved God and her family with all her heart. She taught her boys to love the Lord, and to serve others. Janice blessed countless people over her lifetime and did her utmost to support her family and community at every turn. She had a heart of gold and will forever be remembered as the angel who blessed an entire community. Janice will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Betty Carter, and grandparents, Jessie and Edna Carter, Cleo Mitchell and Wilbur Hall.
All expressions of sympathy, including flowers, cards, and honorary donations to a favorite charity (Janice loved animals, so the Houston Humane Society or local rescue shelter are offered as suggestions) are welcome and profoundly appreciated.
