James "Tony" Nuttall's Obituary
James Dustin “Tony” Nuttall passed away June 8, 2024 at the home of his son James “Dustin” Nuttall Jr. in Magnolia, Texas. He was 93 years old.
Tony was born September 6, 1930 in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Leonard and Winifred (Wilkins) Nuttall. He was the youngest of 5 children. Tony’s father worked for the telephone company and the family moved every few months because of his father’s work. After his father’s death when Tony was 14, Tony and his mother settled in Rigby, Idaho, where Tony graduated from high school. He then went to the University of Colorado where he received his bachelor’s degree in geography and later received his master’s degree in education from the University of New Mexico.
During summers while attending the University of Colorado, Tony worked at Yellowstone. It was here he met the love of his life, Helen Wolfe from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They were married December 27, 1951 in Cedar Rapids. After college Tony and his family settled in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Tony taught school there until 1987 when he retired.
Tony loved to travel and during his lifetime had the opportunity to travel all around the globe. Even after the death of Helen in 1988, he continued to travel on his own. Many times, he would just pack his car and head out on a road trip. He also loved the out of doors – camping and fishing. He had so many stories of his travel and childhood that the family loved to hear.
Tony was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, his brothers, Leonard (Wilks) and William (Coardy) Nuttall, and his sisters, Winifred Jones and Dixie O’Hearn. He is survived by his son, James “Dustin” Jr. (Mary) of Magnolia, Texas, and by his daughter, Jo-Jean Chamas (Lawrence) of Smithville, Missouri, and by his ten grandchildren, Ginger Chamas, Neffie Wilson, Marcy Messer, Melissa Hernandez, Eric Chamas, Dierdra Chamas, Kirby Nuttall, Nicholas Chamas, David Nuttall and Courtney Nuttall. He also has 11 great-grandchildren.
Tony lived a long and full life and was loved by his entire family. He will be remembered for his support and concern for others and will be greatly missed. His ashes will be buried next to his beloved wife at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
