Hazel Louise Saub's Obituary
Hazel Louise Saub was born in Cisco, TX, on October 5, 1927 to Hester Van Cleave Blount and Lawrence David Blount, Sr. She grew up in Cisco, attended the schools and grew into a beautiful young lady. She was involved in many activities and most people around Cisco knew who she was because of her outgoing personality. She never saw a stranger and loved people no matter who they were or what their status. She was kind, caring and loving; always having a good word for everyone she met.
Hazel loved her family and delighted in doing special things for them. All her nieces and nephews especially loved their “Aunt Hazel”. She was very talented. At an early age she was interested in art. She loved to sketch and soon was sketching people. She was also a poet winning a contest with her poem, “The Wishing Well” in 1975 from the Clover International Poetry competition. Hazel loved music and loved to sing with her beautiful voice. In the mid 1940’s, she moved to the Fort Worth, Dallas area where she worked as a photographers model, did volunteer work for several organizations including a group of young ladies who went to McKinney Hospital volunteering to write letters to the families of severely wounded soldiers.
With Hazel’s sweet personality and caring influence, she helped many young men begin to rehabilitate. This happened in 1945 when World War II was ending. During that time, she met and later married Victor Saub in 1946. During their long marriage they traveled extensively. In June of 2017, she moved into an assisted living facility. There she continued to care about others, making friends and bringing more joy into their lives.
Hazel’s memory will linger for a long time and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She passed from this life August 2, 2018. She is survived by three sisters, one brother and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by three brothers.
The family will gather for a time of visitation and sharing on Friday August 3, 2018 from 6:30 in the evening until 8 o’clock in the chapel of Hardin Family Funeral Home located at 9034 Long Point Road, Houston, TX 77055. Hazel will be laid to rest on Saturday August 4, 2018 at 10 o’clock in the morning at Forest Park Cemetery on Westheimer Road located at 12800 Westheimer Road Houston, TX 77077.
