Gilbert Irwin Pogson's Obituary
Gilbert Irwin Pogson passed away peacefully on June 26, 2014 in Cypress, TX. He was born to Desmond and Cecilia Pogson in Maracaibo, Venezuela on March 28, 1929. Gil attended elementary school at various Creole Petroleum oil camps in Venezuela; high school in Jacksonville, FL and Baton Rouge, LA ; and college at Louisiana State University, Kilgore Jr. College and the University of Texas-Austin. He worked in the oil and gas industry as a materials estimator. During his long career, he worked mainly at Foster Wheeler but also had stints at several other firms including Baroid, Lummus Crest and M.W. Kellogg. Gil was an avid music collector and particularly loved listening to Latin jazz. He also enjoyed sports and coaching his sons’ Little League baseball teams.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Gwyneth Pogson Eills. He is survived by his wife, Norma Iversen Pogson; daughters, Deborah and Angelica Pogson; son, Kenneth Pogson and wife Susan; son, Michael D. Pogson and wife Sylvia; brother, Clyde Pogson and wife Anne; sister, Zilla Pogson Harman; grandchildren, Michael A. Pogson, Isabel Pogson, Lindsey Pogson and Kyle Pogson; as well as many other extended family. Gilbert’s family and friends will gather on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 11 o'clock in the morning for a Memorial Service at Willowbrook Church, 13115 Hargrave Rd, Houston, TX 77070, ; a lunch reception will follow.
