Elmer Lee "Butch" Mathis' Obituary
Elmer Lee Mathis was welcomed into the world by Cleo Senseney and Lee Mathis in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on July 24,1938. He met his Lord and Savior on February 13, 2017. He acquired the nickname "Butch" by the nurses in the hospital nursery. Being the only boy his cry was louder than the baby girls and the nurses would say "Go get Butch - he's hungry".
Butch's greatest love was driving big trucks, flying, and pipe organ music. His father was co-owner of United Transport car haulers that was started in Ardmore, Oklahoma. He learned at an early age to drive anything with wheels. At age 16, he earned his private pilot's license and loved to go flying at any oppurtunity. Pipe organ was dear to his heart and he knew the fundamentals of playing but preferred to be an avid listener.
He leaves behind his first love, Linda Venard Mathis. A daughter, Mickey Lee Wells, who was the love of his life, and husband Travis Wells. His grandsons, Jacob Damian Wells (Taylor Woodson) and Brandon Nicholas Wells (Kyla Bone). His sister, Ann Mathis in Oklahoma City and numerous nieces and nephews. Steve Schlesing a long time member of the family beginning in the days as one of the organists for Pipe Organ Pizza. He is now a professional organist residing in Detroit, Michigan. A Celebration of Butch"s life will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 1 o'clock in the afternoon at Spring Woods Baptist Church.
