Earl Orin Haggerty's Obituary
The Family of Lance Corporal Veteran Earl Orin Haggerty is saddened to announce his passing on August 1, 2023, at the age of 76 years old. Earl was born to Maxine and Earl Haggerty at Bear Lake Hospital on December 11, 1946.
Earl took the Oath of Enlistment at seventeen years old. Fifty-nine years ago, on August 24th Earl left his family, friends and home in Kemmerer, Wyoming for boot camp. The longest and hardest of all Military Branches Boot Camp, The US Marine Corps. Earl answered the courageous call and rose above his fears and became a Forward Observer. Forward Observers often alone, serve as the eyes of the artillery gunner in delivering rounds on enemy targets in hostile territories. Earl served two tours in Vietnam with the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines. Their Motto: Fortune Favors the Brave. Earl returned home from Vietnam and separated from Military in 1968. Earl rarely spoke about the war because it was such a painful experience to relive. The metals told stories that he could not.
Earl was awarded a Silver Star Metal with combat v for valor, a Bronze Star Metal with combat v for valor, two Purple Heart Medals with one gold star, Marine Core Good Conduct Metal, Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Metal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Presidential Unit Commendation, Republic of Vietnam Service Metal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Metal, Republic of Vietnam MUC Gallantry Cross and the Republic of Vietnam MUC Civil Action Metal and the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge.
Earl worked as a crane operator in Kemmerer, Wyoming, and in retail, route sales and merchandising roles in Houston prior to his retirement. Earl lived in Houston for most of his adult life before moving to Sandy, Utah for fifteen years and two years ago, he moved back to Houston.
Earl loved his family, he adored being part of family gatherings, going to dinner or just going for a drive! Earl enjoyed being part of the lives of his nieces, nephews, great nieces/nephews, and great-great nieces/nephews.
Earl was welcomed at the Gates of Heaven by his parents, his brother Morse, his nephew Oliver Jacobsen, his nephew Gary Lynn Crawford, and his brother-in-law, Gary William Crawford.
Your memory is my keepsake with which we will never part, God has you in his keeping, we have you in our heart, Earl is survived by his two sisters, Sherre Crawford, and Fiona Jacobsen (husband Zach), and all his nieces and nephews and their families and his loyal, beloved dog, Carmen.

We are humbled by the U.S. Marine Corps for honoring Earl and his legacy. Lastly, a heartfelt Thank You to Elaine Adams, for her compassion, care, and dedication to Earl.
Lance Corporal Veteran Earl Haggerty will be honored with Military Honors on Saturday, August 12th, at (4pm) at St. Peter United Church , 9022 Long Point Road, Houston, Tx 77055. The family will be present beginning at 3pm.
