Clay Allen Hamann's Obituary
Clay Allen Hamann, age 64, passed away after a valiant fight for more than 20 years with
Parkinson’s. His devoted family, friends and dogs were by his side.
Son of Wayne and Karen Hamann, he was born in St. Paul, MN on November 30, 1960. He
participated in Boy Scouts, Panola Rockets 4-H club and graduated from Chisago Lakes High
School in Lindstrom, MN lettering in track and field. He had several interesting jobs throughout
his life. He attended cooking school and used his talents working at a nursing home facility;
when that became too structured he traveled to Montana/Wyoming to work on a dude ranch;
from there he moved to Texas to work for a company repairing airplane fuel tanks which
provided opportunities to travel around the world; he ended his employment with Chase
Controls in Tomball, Texas assembling valves and oil field related parts.
Clay met his wife Jenny In 2011. They married in 2013; though, Clay said it was love at first sight
for him. They lived in Spring, TX, where they raised chickens and their three dogs. His fur baby
Cleo remained by his side until his last breath.
Clay was a devoted member of his church. He was a 4 th degree Knight with the Knights of
Columbus and was very proud of being part of their mission to serve the community. He earned
Knight of the month as well as family of the month several times. There was no task too small.
His fellow Knights were often humbled and inspired at how dedicated he was even when his
body struggled to keep up with his mind.
As Parkinson’s affected his mobility Clay fought back by attending Rock Steady Boxing classes.
His Coach said when she felt weak, she would think of Clay, because she had never met a more
brave, persistent and determined individual. He never stopped fighting when times were tough
and always had a smile on his face. Clay was the definition of perseverance, he did not know
how to stop.
As a husband, he exemplified a strength which molded the couple into better individuals and as
their faith in God grew their love for each other blossomed. He was a man of few words but
showed love through action. Clay took an interest in those around him and would do whatever
was needed. He wouldn’t wait to be asked, he stepped in and acted. His inner strength and
determination were contagious. If you mentioned a project to do “someday”, he would soon be
in his car heading to Home Depot.
Clay enjoyed tending to his chickens, flowers and vegetable gardens. He was a constant
gardener; you could usually find him with his hands in the dirt pulling weeds or planting; he
always shared his bounty with neighbors. He was a champion trapper of raccoons and
armadillos and a wrangler of squirrels, once training one to eat from his hand. He loved hunting
in years past with his father and brothers; he had a passion for fishing and enjoyed teaching
neighbor kids to fish and clean their catch. He was an avid cyclist and participated in group
rides/races with his sister Kelly and wife. He continued to enjoy cycling well into 2024. Clay
loved motorcycle rides with Jenny and friends. When it became difficult to manage the two-
wheeler, he traded it for a three-wheeler. On select holidays, Clay would light up their cul-de-
sac with a fireworks display; in his down time, he enjoyed collecting coins; he had an obsession
finding and collecting golf balls. Still today Jenny finds balls in the strangest places. When travel
permitted, he treasured time being silly with his three nieces.
Clay is survived by his Mother Karen Hamann, loving wife Jenny Hamann, sisters Kelly Hamann
and Robyn Wampler, brother Jim Hamann, and nieces Sarah Wampler, Corteney Hamann and
Elizabeth Wampler.
He is preceded in death by his father Wayne Hamann, brother Scott Hamann and son Joshua
Hamann, and niece Kimberly Hamann.
