Buck Smith

Buck Smith, 85, of Dayton passed away on Monday, February 2, 2015 in Liberty, Texas. He was born on February 12, 1929 in Lovelady, Texas to parents, Henry Milton Smith and Beulah Mae Stewart Smith. Buck had lived in Dayton for the past 40 years.He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Pamela J. Burch; brothers, Grady O. Smith, Henry M. Smith, Jr., Glen Smith and Rivers Morris Smith; and sister, Wilma Fleming. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Smith; daughter, Debbie Nolen; son, David Wayne Raschke; grandchildren, Nissa Turner, Michael Patrick Nolen & wife Amy and Christopher Lee Nolen & wife Brittany; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua, Corbin and Mikela Leigh Nolen; Step-children, Martha Masterson, Arlene Brooks, Betty Reynolds & husband Sandy and Joe Fowler & wife Rae Ann. Buck was a Charter Member of the Grace Community Baptist Church in Dayton and taught a Sunday School Class there for over 17 years. His church and his church family were very important to him. One of his many duties at church was that of being the official greeter and welcoming everyone to services with a huge smile and that infectious laugh of his. Buck will be missed greatly by his church family. He was a true friend and a very loving and caring man. While he will be remembered for many things, most will remember his laugh; one that cannot be duplicated, and being honored with a piece of candy which always came with that contagious smile of his. He was a retired pipefitter and a member of the Local #211 and a 60+ year member of the Grand Masonic Lodge #449 in Woodville, Texas. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 from 6 o’clock in the evening until 8 o’clock at Grace Community Baptist Church in Dayton. A Celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 11 o’clock in the morning at Grace Community Baptist Church in Dayton with the Rev. Wayne Hardin officiating. Buck will be laid to rest following services at Palms Memorial Park in Dayton. Alfred Espinosa, Chris Nolen, Michael Nolen, W. T. Brothers, Delbert Estep and Bill O’Neal will serve as pallbearers.
