Dr. Arturo Bautista, 92, of Katy, TX passed away peacefully in his home on June 13, 2025 surrounded by his family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and son, he was beloved by all who knew him.
He was born in Tajamar, Bolivia, the son of Pedro Bautista and Emilia Bautista (Torrico) on October 25, 1932.
Dr. Bautista was the 5th of eight children.
Although he came from humble beginnings, Dr. Bautista had a successful career as a pediatrician in Cochabamba, Bolivia as well as Houston, Texas. With the help of his family and community, he graduated in 1959 from Universidad Mayor de San Simon in Cochabamba, Bolivia. He completed a pediatric residency in Cali, Colombia and he also completed a pediatric residency at Women’s Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology and metabolic diseases at the University of Kentucky, Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
“Dr. B.”, as he was affectionately known by his patients and staff, enjoyed a successful private practice as a Pediatrician with a specialty in endocrinology for almost 40 years at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center. He was affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children’s Hospital and Memorial Hermann.
He was a distinguished physician, Christian and a passionate humanitarian who devoted countless hours as a volunteer and board member at Eastwood Health Clinic in Houston’s east end for over 30 years. For 7 years Dr. Bautista lead and coordinated volunteer medical missions to a remote hospital in his rural home village of Tajamar, Bolivia among other charitable endeavors.
A devoted Christian, he lived his life with deep faith and unwavering trust in God through every joy and every trial. His strength, compassion, and grace were a reflection of the faith that anchored him.
He was a man full of deep passion, prayer, joy, and connection, who filled our lives with laughter, stories, and unwavering love.
He embraced life with enthusiasm and grace. A devoted fan of the Houston Rockets and Astros, he rarely missed a game and could always be counted on for spirited commentary, win or lose. He had a deep love for reading, a curiosity that took him to many worlds beyond his own, and a dancing spirit that lit up any room. Whether twirling to a joyful rhythm or swaying to classical music, he moved through life with elegance and joy.
Holidays were never ordinary in his presence as he relished dressing up, donning festive hats, and making every celebration sparkle. His sense of fun extended beyond special occasions: he loved board games, adventures, and any chance to explore something new. But above all, what mattered most to him was time spent with family both here and abroad. His love reached across borders, cultures, and generations.
He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, curiosity, and a deep, abiding love for his family. We will carry his stories, his laughter, and his remarkable spirit with us always.
