Alex C La Mar's Obituary
On April 7, 2015, Alejandro Carlo La Mar, 53 of Houston, passed away at Memorial
Hermann Hospice due to pancreatic cancer. He was born on June 2, 1961 in La Paz,
Bolivia, to parents Carlos Pedro La Mar Telleria and Norah Concepcion De Los Santos.
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend leaves behind a
legacy of love, humility, music, dedication, and service to God. Alex was a faithful
member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served a 2-year LDS
mission in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. He also served in capacities such as Stake Counselor,
High Councilor, Bishop, Branch President, Executive Secretary, and Sunday School
Teacher. Alex loved his job as an Employment Specialist, working for LDS Employment
Services.
Alex is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; five children, Rebeca Baltazar (Artemio),
Tucson AZ; Lulu Suberville (Carlos), Chandler AZ; Andrea Gracia (Alex) Houston TX;
Michael, Adam, nine grandchildren, and brother, Ariel La Mar (Regina), Sao Paulo,
Brazil.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carlos & Norah La Mar; parents-in-law, George
& Rosa Moran, grandmother Rebeca Mendoza.
Alex was a modern-day ‘renaissance man.’ He had uncanny musical talents, playing the
guitar, cuatro, and traditional Andean instruments such as the panpipes, Andean flutes,
zampoña, and charango. He performed and composed music throughout his life. He
had a natural gift to play any song upon hearing it once. He enjoyed playing and having
his wife sing along with him. They were a magic duo.
He was highly involved in the Boy Scouts of America. He earned his Eage Equivelant in
his native Bolivia and had trained many future leaders. He was part of the Sam
Houston Area Council of the BSA and a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. His
leadership skills took him to many camping retreats and leadership trainings throughout
Texas. He was always prepared for anything and well organized.
Words can’t explain how much we will miss Alex. He was the center of our lives. He
lived a life of true devotion to family and faith. His gentle manner, quiet strength, and
pure love of Christ has been felt by many individuals and families within his spheres of
influence. He was rich in family and friends.
A Viewing will be held on Friday, April 10, 2015 at Hardin Family Funeral Homes from
