Adolphus John Duplissey's Obituary
Adolphus John Duplissey, better known as A J, was born on August 27, 1929 to his parents, Adolphus and Bertie, in Port Arthur, TX. His childhood was spent in the Port Arthur area. A J's first few years in elementary school were at a Lutheran School. He was later enrolled in public schools and graduated from high school at Thomas Jefferson High in Port Arthur. A J was drafted into the Army in January 1951 and was stationed at Ft. Benning in Georgia after basic training. He received a hardship discharge to care for his parents in January 1952. After returning from the armed forces, he worked at the Gulf Oil Corporation in Port Arthur. After 33 years, he retired from Gulf Oil in December 1985 as Number 1 Operator.
In 1955, A J and Georgia Elaine Goeddertz where married. They were married for 29 years. In 1959, Georgia gave birth to a baby girl; Lori Elaine Duplissey who resides with her husband, Ed Young in Northwest Houston. In October 1984 Georgia died suddenly at the young age of 48 years. A J gave his life to the Lord as a young man and served God all of his life. A J was an adult Sunday School Teacher, Praise and Worship Leader and served on the Board of Directors for many years at Groves Assembly of God Church in Groves, TX.
In 1985, the Lord began to speak to A J about moving to Kingwood, TX. He did not understand why, until he met Arvaye Jones who had been transferred from Chevron in Orange, TX to Chevron in Kingwood, TX. They had known each other for several years as they both attended the Assembly of God Church in Groves. Arvaye and A J were married in August, 1986 and soon after that he was on the Board of Elders in the Chapel of the Forest Church. After several years, he joined Reverend Richard Lee at Bethany Fellowship Church, At Bethany Fellowship Church he served as an Elder for many years until he had to resign due to physical issues. Today, A J is having a great time in the presence of his Lord. Amen
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Georgia Eliane Goeddertz Duplissey and step-son, Jeff Jones. He is survived by his wife, Arvaye Moore Duplissey; daughter, Lori Young and her husband Ed; step-son, James Jones and his wife Angie; grandchildren, Bradley Rubino and Jennifer Hans; step-grandchildren, Brittany and Amber Jones; three great-grandchildren; brother, Arville Duplissey; sister, Eloise Graffinio and numerous other family members and a host friends.
A J's family will gather to Celebrate his life on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 11 o'clock in the morning at Bethany Fellowship Church located at 3933 Woodland Hills in Kingwood, TX.
