Ed Umbricht Jr

September 22, 1928 - March 25, 2015

Ed Umbricht, Jr. passed away peacefully on March 25, 2015 in Houston, Texas at the age of 86. Ed was one of three athletic brothers of a family that survived the Great Depression in Chicago, Illinois. While older brother Bill could have been a professional hockey player had he not been killed in action during WWII, and younger brother Jim played professional baseball for the Houston Colt 45s (now the Astros) from 1961 through 1963 before passing away in 1964, Ed could have become a professional golfer. Instead, he chose to become a family man after falling in love and marrying Marji, his wife of 53 years. After Ed retired from a long career with Continental Insurance Companies, he and Marji traveled the country in their motor home, enjoying sight-seeing, learning about the history of this great land, and making many new friends along the way. Marji preceded Ed in death in 2007, and he is survived by his four children, Ed, Susan, Jan and Joan, and their families. A memorial service and brief reception will be held Monday, March 30, 2015 at 2:00pm at Hardin Family Funeral Home, 9034 Long Point Rd, Houston, TX 77055. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution in Ed's name to the American Cancer Society
