Idabel Ryan

Idabel Ryan, 80, of Houston TX passed away surrounded by family in Beloit WI on 8/25/2024 after a brief battle with brain cancer. Ida was born on 10-2-43 in Houston, TX. After graduating from high school, she married the love of her life and had two children. Ida pursued and received her LVN license in 1971, after her divorce. Ida's passion became nursing. She sought to become an RN for many years while raising her children. She was an amazing LVN, becoming the Director of Nursing at a local nursing home in Houston. At one point, while working private duty, she saved the life of her patient when there was a building fire on the floor she was on. Ida was able to get the patient on a mattress and haul her down the stairs. She successfully completed her education and testing in 1996 to be an RN. Ida's greatest professional accomplishment was her time at T.I.R.R., where she was a neuro-rehab nurse. Being a nurse was her identity until the end. Ida was also devoted in her faith and love for Jesus Christ. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and found great comfort in both the bible and the Book of Mormon. She shared her testimony with those that would listen and quietly listened to those that couldn't hear her. She knew with her whole heart her place in life after death, and she was not afraid because she knew she would never be alone. Ida found a great group of friends-Mary, Margaret, Chris, and Ida were the Euchre Ladies. They not only had monthly get togethers but also had true adventures. These women went on trips across the Midwest and Texas but also knocked a dozen South American cruise destinations off their lists. Idabel is survived by her siblings Carolyne Gunderson and James Peevey; children Jonathan (Laura) Ryan and Hesper Ryan (Ken Giffor); grandchildren Zane Gifford, Riviera Ryan, Vanessa (Sean) Bailey, Jon Ryan, and Julian Ryan; and great-grandchildren Jace, Alice, Xavyer, Andrew, and Zophia; and niece/nephew Gwen Peevey and James Peevey Jr. She was preceded in death by all of her parents, Clarence (Bertha) Peevey and Ida (Roy) Schoonover; brother-in-law James Gunderson; and her niece Judy Falcone Miller. Ida found new love in the faces of her grand and great-grandbabies. She found the last love of her life in the wonderful Antoine. Ida was passionate about supporting the ASPCA and PBS. Please honor her with a donation to one of these organization instead of flowers.
