Florene Deloris Morris

Florene Deloris “Flo” West Morris, 88, of Buna, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025 in Houston, Tx surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 2, 1937 in Anderson, Missouri to Richard Lyle and Edna Mae Carter West. Florene grew up in a Godly home, where her father was a revivalist. She attended school in the Granby, Missouri area until the family moved to Houston, and was actively involved in church life from an early age. She had a deep love for gospel music, learning to read shape notes in singing schools and participating in various singing groups, choirs, and gospel quartets throughout her life. On February 11, 1955, she married the love of her life, John Thomas “Buddy” Morris, and they shared 58 wonderful years together until his passing in 2013. Together, they raised their children with faith and love, instilling in them the values of service, kindness, and devotion to God. Florene was a dedicated member of her church, working in the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU), serving as a leader for the Girls Auxiliary and teaching Sunday School. She had a passion for mentoring young girls, sharing her faith, and teaching them about Jesus. She also pursued further education, earning her GED and taking college courses in accounting. She worked for several car dealerships in Southeast Texas from the late 1960’s until 1982, when she left her job to care for her husband following an accident. Florene’s compassionate heart led her to care for many of her loved ones, including her parents and mother-in-law, until their passing. She was a faithful visitor to homebound friends and church members, always offering encouragement and prayer. She even served as an Ombudsman for the Buna Nursing Home for several years, lending a voice to those living there. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy; her son, Michael Thomas Morris; her parents; and her sibling, David West, Tim West Sr, Evelyn Idom, Darlene Sheller, Kathryn Charlton Diehl, Letha Merrimon and granddaughter Tina Fluker. Florene is survived by her daughter, Pamela Morris Bridges, and husband Gary of Clifton, Texas; her son, Rob Morris, and wife Bev of Houston, Texas; her step-daughter, Toby Euton and husband Bob of Houston, Texas; her grandchildren, Jonathan Austin, Ledah Kelley and husband Travis, Blake Morris and wife Brittanee, Ryan Morris, Dylan Morris, Hayley Brungardt, Magen Smith and husband Connor; great grandchildren Tristan Armstrong, Alanah Austin, Kenedy Austin, Aedan Kelley, Elijah Kelley, and Colt Morris great great grandson Cole Austin Jones. She is also survived by her brothers Gerald West, Sr., and Larry West, Sr.; her sister Linda Singleton; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Florene’s legacy is one of faith, love and unwavering devotion to her Lord and Savior. She was a prayer warrior whose prayers will continue to touch lives for generations to come. Her family and friends take comfort in knowing she is rejoicing in Heaven, singing praises with the gospel quartets she so dearly loved. A celebration of Florene’s life will be held at First Baptist Church, 1155 State Hwy 62, Buna, Texas, 77612 on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Family visitation will begin at 12:30 with public visitation beginning at 1:00. The celebration will follow immediately after visitation starting at 2:00 pm.
